Being the first lady seems like it would be opulent doesn’t it? That’s only if you’re into that sort of thing. Personally, with the current administration, I’d rather be torn apart by wild dogs than to go to bed with Donald Trump. How do you wash that level of nasty off your skin?
As horrible as it sounds, the wild dogs would eventually stop. It would be over and you be dead, way before the dogs were finished tearing away your flesh. The brain protects us. You’d go into shock and no longer be coherent. But being married to Donald Trump not only goes on and on, with the entire world watching, but Melania is completely aware of every repugnant episode.
The point is that one would think living in that big mansion with the large white columns and all of its history, would be glitzy, stylish, and just think of the parties!
But then you remember Donald, always there spewing his particular brand of bogus, empty-headed, gossip-based, paranoid, hateful propaganda.
I just can’t seem to get this horrifying guy out of my head. No, don’t flatter yourself Donald. You’re not my dance and even if you were, well, I think I’ve made my point on how I feel about you.
Anyway, down to the point of this rant. France’s first lady – when are we going to get a better term for a president’s wife? You would think we could have a better term for the role after Hillary Clinton completed her stunning tenure. And what about Elenore Roosevelt? She was so much more than a first lady.
Here we go, no more sidetracks.
Melania’s Life is Limited
France’s first lady, Brigitte Macron, told Le Monde, she found Melania’s life very limited. This could explain why Melania comes across as blank and cold in public. She is not permitted to do anything, due to security restrictions. Melania is not even allowed to open a window at the White House. She does not go outside unless it’s a press event with President Trump. She seems to be far more constrained than the French first lady. Brigitte Macron goes out every day in Paris.
Macron went on to say that Ms. Trump has to be very careful of what she says and how she looks due to constant media analysis. Oh really? No offense Ms. Macron, but if that’s true, Ms. Trump should get better speech writers and handlers on her team. Let’s not forget Melania Trump’s Republican National Convention speech, the one in which she borrowed passages nearly word-for-word, from first lady Michelle Obama’s speech at the Democratic National Convention, eight years earlier.
More than a 2-Dimensional Cut-out
Still, as women, we must have empathy. Melania is undoubtedly more than the 2-dimensional cut-out they present to us, a cold woman who won’t even hold her husband’s hand. Wait a minute. Let’s not be too quick to judge. Who can fault her? Her unwillingness to hold Donald’s hand is the one thing I can genuinely respect about her.
Macron says during their visit, Melania was “kind, charming, intelligent, and very open,” and “actually really fun.” It probably didn’t hurt that Melania speaks French fluently.
Obviously, Donald can’t be bothered to speak a foreign language. How could he? It requires the skill of reading to learn a foreign language – a skill that he does not appear to possess or at the very least does not choose to utilize.
Come back tomorrow for Wilson L. Mann’s counterpoint. I’m sure I will have a lot to comment on in my rebuttal.
