Artist Bio

Born to a small town in upstate New York, Uribes’ first taste of art school really began on arrival in Los Angeles.  There she attended Otis College of Art and Design. She continued to work as a graphic artist and eventually moved to the San Francisco Bay area with her husband.  Uribes completed her BFA at the San Francisco Art Institute, going on to obtain her teaching credential from San Jose State University.  She currently teaches drawing and painting at Notre Dame High School in Belmont, California.

Over the course of her thirty years plus of art making, working predominantly in acrylic paint on canvas, her work has evolved in many directions. Yet, the one constant has been an involvement with the figure. Even in segments of her work where no recognizable body is present, the organic shapes within each composition speak of the figure.

Focusing on the figure as her primary subject, Uribes’ current interest is high energy paintings she calls Laughing Heads. Painting in a spontaneous style with active brush work, allows Uribes to capture the intensity of the contagious joy her subjects express.
